The same plot can be generated using ggplot2. We can express these functions in R as: slope |t|) Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) linear regression is a statistical technique used for the analysis and modelling of linear relationships between a response variable and one or more predictor variables. Where is the number of observations in our dataset, means the sum all the observations, and are the th observation of and, and and are the means of and, respectively. How do we figure out this line of best fit manually? We can work out for the women dataset using this formula: There seems to be a relationship between height and weight. # install the packages below if you haven't already Here's a quick example using the "women" dataset that comes with R. Where is the slope or gradient and is the y-intercept. Therefore, linear regression can be interpreted as trying to find the equation of the straight-line that fits the data points the best and captures the relationship between the variables the best line is the one that minimises the sum of squared residuals of the linear regression model. Linear simply means a straight-line, regression in this context means relationship, and modelling means fitting. The case of one explanatory variable is called simple linear regression for more than one, the process is called multiple linear regression. linear regression is used to model linear relationship between an outcome variable, y, and a set of covariates or predictor variables x1,x2,xp. The same analysis applies to all the remaining regression. b1X1 represents the regression coefficient ( b1) on the first independent variable ( X1 ). Y and b0 are the same as in the simple linear regression model. In statistics, linear regression is a linear approach for modelling the relationship between a scalar response and one or more explanatory variables (also known as dependent and independent variables). This is the use of linear regression with multiple variables, and the equation is: Y b0 + b1X1 + b2X2 + b3X3 + + bnXn + e. The linear model will estimate each diamond’s value using the following equation: Int +weight ×weight+clarity ×clarity+color ×color I n t. On Wikipedia, linear regression is described as: Our goal is to come up with a linear model we can use to estimate the value of each diamond (DV value) as a linear combination of three independent variables: its weight, clarity, and color. It can be used to carry out regression, single stratum analysis of variance and analysis of covariance (although aov may.

While the summer season is more than halfway over, there is still loads of time to get outside, and enjoy what’s left. It is also speculated that the woman whose song is based is Liz Gumble, Eddie's girlfriend on Junior Year, someone he had a deep and romantic relationship. Vedder stated on Pearl Jam Twenty that "it's a true story, something that I really felt and I still feel every time I sing it". The new song, now called "Black" was a romantic, depressive, emotional and past love story. Eddie didn't send any composition to the trio about this specific Stone's demo, but on his way to Seattle, he wrote the lyrics. When Vedder received a tape with demos from Stone, Jeff and Mike, he recorded three songs and composed a trilogy ( The Momma-Son) but only sent it in another tape. There was another song, recorded by Gossard, named E Ballad. It is a very interesting mix.Liz Gumble, the possible inspiration for "Black". And I feel there is a blues tone to it as well with the guitars and Eddie’s vocal delivery. Then they bring on “Even Flow” which seems to be a little funkier version with Abbruzzese’s drum beat and Jeff Ament’s bass. They took a song that was so intense as a plugged in version and they lost none of that intensity when they pulled the plug. Side two opens with the brutal “Jeremy” which was the first song that I liked by the band. With my headphones on, I am soaking it all in. Vedder delivers a raw, honest performance that leaves you a little breathless. In one of the nights most somber performances, it stands out as one of its finest. They ended side one with “Black” and a song that is perfect for the unplugged setting. They were the perfect centerpiece capped off by some playing by the band that was both stripped down to its essence and yet full of flavor. Eddie’s vocals were haunting at times and even wistful at times. Crank it up, sit back and savor every note played. Not to be outdone, “Alive” is another track that highlights the musicianship of this band. And of course, Mike McCready slays with a solo that was the piece de resistance. Stone Gossard tore it up on the acoustic for this along with a rousing performance by Dave Abbruzzese on drums. He gets the audience all riled up with excitement and then the band goes in to the biggest treat on here, “State of Love and Trust” which was not on the debut album, but a demo that was later released on a re-issue. Eddie sounds almost a little nervous at first until he gets in to the song a little and then he settles right in sounds like a man on a mission. The album opens with the love song about Eddie’s surf board, “Oceans”. The crowd was in to it, the band was in to and the TV audience was in to it. They attacked the performance with an energy that was more than contagious. You get a performance from a band that was on the rise, the flavor of the day, but yet a band that had something to prove. The packaging is a beautiful gatefold for only 1 LP which I always love to see. But there was something about this show that resonated and when I saw it was coming out on vinyl, it was a no-brainer. I was not a Grunge fan at all as I come from the 80’s and the whole 80’s Rock scene. When I watched this back in the day, I realized than that the guys were pretty freaking great. The album was recorded in 1992 right after the end of the Tour for their debut album ‘Ten’ and a set list that covers that album quite nicely, you are treated to one mesmerizing and very special performance. And I’ll be honest, this is the FIRST Pearl Jam album I have actually bought on vinyl…I know, crazy right!! But what a way to start. Another exclusive I wanted was Pearl Jam’s MTV Unplugged appearance from 1992 finally being released on vinyl. This was the first time that record was to be released on vinyl. For Record Store Day Black Friday 2019, I got up bright and early to go stand in line for some Exclusive vinyls and most notably was for Matt Nathanson’s 2007 album ‘Some Mad Hope’. As de Pater shows in her new paper, the SO as seen with ALMA is likely produced when sunlight breaks the sulfur-oxygen bond in SO 2 that has been ejected hundreds of kilometers above the surface. They saw widespread sulfur monoxide (SO) gas in the atmosphere - not, as expected, only over active volcanoes. There were also hints of stealth volcanism in observations reported by de Pater and her colleagues in July, based on Keck observations. During the eclipse, in addition to abundant SO 2 gas over some volcanoes, ALMA also detected low levels of SO 2 globally in Io’s atmosphere, suggesting that many unseen volcanoes - so-called stealth volcanoes, because they emit no smoke or other particulates that can be easily seen - are constantly spewing SO 2 into the atmosphere that remains too warm to condense. She noted that not all the cold SO 2 froze out as the temperature dropped in Jupiter’s shadow. “As soon as Io gets into sunlight, the temperature increases, and you get all this SO 2 ice subliming into gas, and you reform the atmosphere in about 10 minutes’ time, faster than what models had predicted,” said de Pater. 2 and 11 in 2018, the cold sulfur dioxide emissions returned within about 10 minutes. Īlthough Io’s surface is always cold - about 150 degrees Celsius below freezing, or -230 F - a further drop in temperature by a few tens of degrees, down to -270 F, brings the temperature below the freezing point of SO 2.Īs the moon reemerged from Jupiter’s shadow during observations on Sept. These radio images for the first time show plumes of sulfur dioxide (in yellow) rise up from the volcanoes on Io. This video shows images of Jupiter’s moon Io in radio (obtained by ALMA) and optical light (from the Voyager 1 and Galileo missions) as Io is eclipsed by Jupiter and comes out of eclipse. In a paper accepted for publication in the Planetary Science Journal, de Pater and her colleagues report that the radio emissions from sulfur dioxide (SO 2) gas dropped exponentially as Io was eclipsed by Jupiter on March 20, 2018, indicating that the lower atmosphere - below 10 to 20 kilometers in altitude - essentially collapsed, quickly freezing out onto the surface. One surprise from the new observations is that the atmosphere becomes dramatically unstable when Io passes through Jupiter’s shadow every 42 hours as it orbits the planet. She has been observing Io’s atmosphere for 30 years with radio telescopes like ALMA and optical and infrared telescopes, primarily the Keck telescopes in Hawaii. With no nearby satellite currently observing the moon - NASA’s Juno mission focuses primarily on Jupiter and will end next July - astronomers like de Pater must rely on Earth-based telescopes to probe the atmosphere. And since we’re unable to probe inside Io, the atmosphere - about a billion times thinner than Earth’s atmosphere - provides a window into the moon’s roiling interior and the internal magma reservoirs feeding the volcanoes. “Is it volcanic activity, or gas that sublimates from the icy surface when Io is in sunlight? What we show is that, actually, volcanoes do have a large impact on the atmosphere.“Īs the most volcanically active moon in our solar system, Io provides a laboratory for exotic environments unlike anything on Earth. “It was not known which process drives the dynamics in Io’s atmosphere,” said de Pater, who is a Professor of the Graduate School in the departments of astronomy and of earth and planetary science at UC Berkeley. New observations with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile, led by astronomer Imke de Pater of the University of California, Berkeley, partially resolve that question. Until now, however, it has been unclear whether volcanoes spewing hot sulfur dioxide (SO 2) are the main contributors to the atmosphere, or whether the main component is the accumulated cold SO 2, much of which is frozen on the surface, but in sunlight evaporates or sublimates into the atmosphere. The atmosphere on Jupiter’s moon Io is a witches’ brew, composed primarily of the sulfurous exhalations of more than 400 volcanoes that dot the surface. The observations for the first time show plumes of sulfur dioxide (yellow) rising up from Io’s volcanoes. A composite image of Io in front of a Cassini photo of Jupiter. As Light laughs, “they don't want to play by the same reindeer games and that lends to some fun drama and conflict.” After all who is going to tell werewolves how to get along? That allowed Light to “find a way to accept a new group of monsters that our audience would understand, to accept people with differences.” In terms of plot, the writers made the werewolves not even remotely interested in playing by the same rules as the zombies, to integrate into high school life, play on the football team and be helpful to their school. “The werewolves come in and challenge some of the hard-fought progress that was made,” the writer outlines. In ZOMBIES 2, the howling werewolves prowl into town to shake things up for Seabrook and even our leading cheerleader and zombie. The writer says at the heart of the movie is a star-struck love story between Addison and Zed but underneath it all it is about inclusivity, acceptance and breaking stereotypes. “In the first movie, we made a lot of progress with integrating zombies into life at Seabrook High,” Light notes. And it is no wonder since the duo is able to deliver quality family entertainment while sparking important conversation between children and adults. Once again the writers behind ZOMBIES 2 are Joseph Raso and David Light, who were nominated for a Humanitas Prize for their original teleplay. What ensues is nothing short of another action-packed, fun-filled, thrilling, high-paced dance-errific story that entertains on the surface, but resonates with important themes of diversity, inclusion and love. The trio enroll at Seabrook and embark on a search to find the powerful moonstone that can restore their fading strength and energy. The newly-found peace between humans and zombies is quickly interrupted however by the arrival of werewolves including pack leader Willa, her brother Wyatt and their friend Wynter. In the sequel the story picks up with Addison completing her exciting and competitive season at cheer camp and Zed is preoccupied with his plan to ask her to Prawn, Seabrook High School's shrimp-themed prom. ZOMBIES 2 premieres on the Disney Channel at 8:00 p.m. As the united neighborhood celebrated their newfound respect and friendship, humans ventured out of their comfort zone to the territory of Zombietown for a fun-filled party. When we last visited the town of Seabrook humans and zombies were living in peace and harmony. Using melted butter gives you a more chewy, dense cookie.
